A Chain of Courage
Lynn Cowell

Each day I started my workday by telling myself, You can do this! It’s not a big deal. For many people the task I needed to complete was simple – something they could accomplish in a few short minutes. But it wasn’t for me.

Even though this simple act would help others in their walk with Jesus, that motivation wasn’t enough to push me through. The fear of failure crippled me. I finally found the courage I needed to push past my phobia when a story leapt off the page and into my heart.

The first two chapters of the book of Exodus tell the tale of a chain of courage – one act of fearlessness prompting another until the whole of these women’s actions changed history.

Act 1: Shiphrah and Puah, midwives in Egypt, are commanded by Pharaoh to kill all males as soon as they are born. Exodus 1:17 tells us, “The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.”

What bravery these women showed in obeying God rather than Pharaoh!

Act 2: Jochebed, the mother of Moses, courageously decides she will not obey Pharaoh, either. Rather than kill her son, she hides him at home. When she can no longer keep his existence a secret, she puts this one she loves in a basket, hiding him in the Nile River.

Jochebed’s faith to take the risk of hiding a baby and putting him in a river is compelling!

Act 3: Miriam, Moses’ sister, stands by, watching the basket boat. But she isn’t just observing. When Pharaoh’s daughter calls for the basket to be brought to her, this grit of a girl steps up and addresses the princess, giving royalty advice on how the child can be taken care of.

Do you see the chain effect one woman’s courage had on another’s?

Shiphrah and Puah decided to go against Pharaoh together.

Jochebed, in the same steps of the midwives, chose courage instead of compromise.

I have no doubt that Jochebed inspired her daughter to show her prowess to the princess.

I want to be a part of a chain effect of courageousness, too!

As a young mother, my mom stepped out of her social norm, embraced Jesus as her Savior and became a prayer warrior for her eight children. Even though several were already adults when she came to know Christ, through her prayers and life testimony, all of us serve Him today.

Seeing my mother’s fearless faith gives me courage to make a difference in my world. Seeing God answer her prayers for her children empowers me to pray for my children’s salvation, asking God that they will follow the steps of Miriam – on the lookout for where God can use them – and when the time is right, boldly step up with the wisdom God gives them.

Friend, where are you in a chain of courage?

Is God calling you to be the first in your family to break out? To step up and bravely make decisions to bring God’s redemption to your family line? To redefine “normal” in your family’s legacy?

Maybe like me, you are blessed to have witnessed the courage of another, and it’s empowered you to be brave. We have to be careful not to grow comfortable or complacent when we’re in the middle of the chain but instead be empowered by the Holy Spirit to keep courage going.

We can start by:

1. Praying for courage.
2. Surrounding ourselves with others who are courageous.
3. Reading stories of others who’ve been courageous in the Bible or in books.

Let’s be brave. Let’s display daring boldness and in turn, teach others to be courageous.

Father,

We are here with THANKSGIVING welling up in our hearts for You. (Psalm 100:4) You are so very great and greatly to be praised. (Psalm 96:4) Power and might belong to You and You alone! You are the Almighty God, the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 43:3) You are our faithful Father. (1 Corinthians 8:6) We are in awe of You and Your ways! (Habakkuk 3:2) You are so very worthy to be praised and thanked this Thanksgiving! (Psalm 145:3) There is none like YOU. (Jeremiah 10:6) Your goodness has no match. (Psalm 34) Your mercies have no end. (Lamentations 3:22-23) Your love has no bounds. (Ephesians 3:18) Those who know You trust in You explicitly. (Psalm 9:10) We are blessed to say, “You are our God!” (Psalm 31:14)

Our hearts yearn to be set apart for You and awakened to the empowerment of PRAYING Your Word together. We pray You show Yourself strong and faithful during our family’s pursuit of You.(1 Chronicles 16:11) We pray You empower this family with healing, wisdom, discernment, direction, and revelation through the Holy Spirit. May we be untangled from this world and tangled up with You and Your living Word in the Secret Place this Thanksgiving. Whisper in our ears the beautiful transformations, the soon-coming miracles, and the merciful restoration plans You have dreamed up for us. Yes, Father God, Answer our prayers. Set us free. Dream with us. Heal us. Hear us. Restore us. Teach us. Then make these beautiful transformations, miracles, and plans so outrageous we will not even believe You until we see it for ourselves! (Psalm 126) Then continue working behind the scenes doing what Your do best; making a way where there seems to be no way for those who have put their trust in You! (Psalm 25:3, Luke 18:27) We ask, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, for this Thanksgiving be unforgettable, unbelievable, and our bond with You and each other unbreakable forevermore!

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to our LORD and Savior! We couldn’t be more thankful for YOU!

With all our thanks and love,
Amen and AMEN!
I love you,
Sheila

Father, Part the Waters!

Father,

I am quite certain You have heard these words from Your child’s lips of late. “Father, What is going on in this world? What is going on in my personal world?” Yet, Your faithful response to their cries might have been drowned out by the fear, static, and noise cluttering Your child’s heart.

So, I will let You repeat Your Words.

“Come to Me!”

Yes, “Come to Me” is quite the invitation! (Matthew 11:28)  As we come near to You, may awe come upon our souls as we learn of Your will, Your truths, and Your ways. (Acts 2:43) May we remember all Your deeds of old Father! For Your way is righteous and holy. What god is a God like You? You are the God who works wonders for those who ask. (Psalm 77:11-14) Your word says that you will again and again do wonders upon wonders for Your people. (Isaiah 29:14) Why should we doubt Your good, perfect and pleasing will now? (Romans 12:2)

You drove back the sea for the Children of Israel as Moses, at Your command, stretched out his hand. Father, today as many of Your children are at their own Red Sea moments we stir-up the waters at Your command with what we have in our hands (and hopefully have forever knitted in our hearts); Your Words. Your Words Prayed. Your Words Prayed in this Three Stranded Prayer. For Your Word is sent forth with a purpose; to heal and deliver. (Psalm 107:20) Your Word stirs up the high waters!

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD
drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and
made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Exodus 14:21

Divide the waters drowning Your child’s faith, their sanity, and yes, even drowning their love. Rescue them from allowing their love to grow cold and from their hearts shutting down from fear. (Daniel 6:27) No, this isn’t the time to abandon our faith in the One whose Hands move in compassion and whose thoughts are continually on us. (Psalm 8:3-4) Forgive us Father for doubting Your love for even the slightest tiny moment. It is our desire to replace any of our unholy moments of doubt, fear, anxiety, depression, dread, whining or complaining with this prayer to stir up the waters before us:

O’ LORD, our Lord. How majestic is Your name in all the earth. (Psalm 8:1) You are my God who is near and never far off. You fill the heavens and the earth. I cannot run, hide, or be missed by You. (Jeremiah 23:23-24) You said to Moses as he sought You; “Here I am.” How faithful You are Father! Seeing Your heart of faithfulness to provide security and assurance to Your children in the holy scriptures strengthens my own heart to endure, battle, and also rest as I stand here at my Red Sea. May we meet face-to face today so I may hear Your voice for myself as to what Your plans, promises, and purposes are for me, as I stand paralyzed before deep waters. I ask to come away from Your presence courageous and full of promises to stir the waters. (Exodus 3:4, 33:7,9-11) Then this will be my appeal to heaven’s holy throne: Father, part the waters too deep for us to stand up against alone. Yes, do wonders upon wonders for me and my house and Your name will be made known as “Faithful and True” through my very lips forever more. My offering is my continual reverence and praises of which You are so very worthy! (Joshua 24:15 and Revelation 19:11) Thank You I can walk on dry land through the impossible high waters away from the hurt, pain, confusion, lack, disease, grief, and brokenness into the land of Your goodness and mercy. My heart is relieved and thankful! (Psalm 25:17 NIV) All the glory and honor to You, forever and ever.

AMEN!

Praying you meet with Him today face-to-face to stir up the waters with His Words and Prayer. Xo

“Come to me!”

In the Mighty Name of Jesus we have prayed!
Amen and Amen,
I love YOU,

Summer 2017 Prayer

header

Father,

Summer is here and has brought with it a brand new season of many long summer days and nights!  I pray my friend devotes this time and season to finding out more about… You, Your attributes, Your character, Your promises, and Your plans for them. (James 4:8, Joshua 1:6, Hebrews 10:22)  Father, my prayer is for You to show Yourself more and more in the summer 2017 to my friend than they have ever known!

More specifically Father, may Jesus be their One and Only Summer Love. (1 John 4:19)

May the long hot days be a reminder of Your love abundant for them as they warm themselves in Your presence. (Psalm 16:11) I pray this is a summer my friend pursues You with a hot pursuit; because only a heart seeking You this way can withstand the trials of this age, the tricks and schemes of the enemy, and even their triumphs and blessings. I pray Your child finds just what they are looking for in this summer of love. (Deuteronomy 4:29 and Isaiah 55:6)

May my friend find their summer safe place with You by knitting Psalm 62:8 into their hearts:

Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah!

Father, we pour out our hearts full of fear, regret, pain, confusion and empty them to be filled with Your holy and righteous love. May You forever be our shelter from lack, danger, and hardship! Yes, we trust You at all times (Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall) for: security, protection, wisdom, provision, comfort, revelation, understanding, and healing. We promise to honor You by being doers of the words of Colossians 4:2 and devote ourselves to fervent prayer that reaches Your ears, being watchful for Your holy hand (and second coming), and thankful to You for the perfectly answered prayer. We are so ready for our summer of perfect love!

In the Mighty Name of Jesus we have prayed!
Amen and Amen,
I love YOU,
Sheila

Mother’s Day Prayer!

header

Father,

Thank you for the beautiful heart You have created in my treasured and beloved friend! (Psalm 139) Today, I honor her with this Three Stranded Prayer.

May my friend’s eyes be forever fixed on You, Your beauty, Your goodness, and Your faithfulness towards her. (Hebrews 12:2) May her ears be awakened every morning to hear Your thoughts, Your instructions for the day, and Your great voice of comfort and love. (Isaiah 50:4-5, Isaiah 55:8, and John 10:27) May her mouth continually sing praises to You; her One and Only True King (Revelation 19:11) May her weary arms be lifted by devoted and loyal friends. (Exodus 17:12) May her hands be an extension of Yours to others who need Your touch. (1 John 3:17) May her legs stand strong on Your Holy, Powerful, and True Word. (Isaiah 55:11 and Psalm 1:1-2) May her feet spread the good news of Your healing, forgiving, and devoted love to this love-starved world! (Isaiah 52:7 and Romans 10:15) Oh, yes and Amen!

May her sweet heart be filled with the joy of the Lord and rejoice in all circumstances because You are her God. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) May she have the mind of Christ and be transformed by the renewing of her mind so she can discern Your good, pleasing, and perfect will for her and her beautiful family each day. (Romans 12:2 and 1 Corinthians 2:16) May this woman of noble character, whom You are so very, very proud, have a day far more perfect than her heart could ever dream of, desire for, or hope for! (Ephesians 3:20-21 and Proverbs 31) May she be clothed in strength and dignity and laugh without fear of the future You hold in Your faithful Hands! May her children rise this day and call her blessed, God-fearing, and adored! (Proverbs 31) May she be honored, hugged, and smothered with love today by those You hand-selected, before the beginning of time, to be Your heart, wisdom, and perfect love to! (Psalm 139 and Jeremiah 1:5) Thank You for her! AMEN!

In the mighty Name of Jesus!
Amen and amen.
I love you!
Sheila
